The Root Chakra and Grounding

I asked Yeoshua (Jesus) and Mary Magdalene the following question. I’ve received several emails about the blog post on the Sacral Chakra so I followed up with this: Your answer about the Sacral Chakra awhile back was extremely interesting. Today, I’d love to hear about the Root Chakra and how this effects us. What role does it play and what do we need to know about it?

YEOSHUA: Yes, again I reiterate that if you have not studied the chakras, it would be a good idea to do so. We are using the 7 chakra system but there are many to choose from. Today, we will discuss the Root Chakra. This is the chakra at the base of your spine. It is associated with the color red. This is  your connection to Mother Earth as it is the closest to the Earth. It is a very important chakra for this reason.

The Root Chakra at the base of your spine

The Root Chakra at the base of your spine

We are all connected to Mother Earth and she sustains us physically and energetically. If you cut off this chakra, you are cutting off this connection and you will not be grounded. If you have done any spiritual work whatsoever, you have heard of this concept called grounding. It means that your feet are firmly planet while your spirit may climb high into the astral planes or out of your body or to do spiritual healing or communication of any kind. If you are not grounded while you are doing any of these things, it may cause you harm, you may receive inaccurate information, or you may bring harm to whoever you are trying to heal. It is extremely important to stay grounded in your spiritual work and the Root Chakra is your means for doing this.

You are feeling ungrounded if you are dizzy, light headed, nauseous, or thirsty. Take care of the thirst first. That’s my motto. Drink lots and lots of water. You are an electrical circuit and are passing a lot of electrical energy through you when you do spiritual work. The water allows you to be a better conduit of energy and information. So drink lots and lots of water. OK. With that said, I’d like to address ways to get grounded. There are many, many ways. We will discuss this and then go back to the Root Chakra.

Eat chocolate to ground yourself...

Eat chocolate to ground yourself...

Eating food is one way to get grounded. Chocolate is especially good at grounding you quickly and easily. This has been used for thousands of years. Shamans everywhere the cocoa bean was found have used chocolate or some form of the bean to help ground them in spiritual ceremonies. The closer the chocolate it is to its natural state (meaning dark chocolate is better), the more helpful it is. If you don’t have chocolate, just eating a light snack of nuts or fruit will help.

Touching the earth or the floor or laying down upon the earth—these are all good ways to ground yourself. Hold onto a tree and feel the roots going down into the earth. Imagine roots growing out of your own feet and diving into the earth grounding you. This is a great visualization to use whenever you are not feeling grounded. Touch the dirt. Pick it up in your hand or lay on the grass. Feel the magnetic field of the earth and let it hold you in its arms. Mother Earth is here to support us and nurture us. Let her do that for you.

That is what to do when you are feeling ungrounded. Now, when you begin your spiritual work, we suggest you ground yourself in a brief ceremony before you get started. Then this ungroundedness is less likely to occur in the first place. So, when you are getting ready to dive into the spiritual realm, use the visualization of your feet buried in the lovely, soft black loamy dirt. Feel its coolness against your toes. See roots growing from the bottom of your feet and joining the roots of the tall trees growing around you. This is the beginning of your root chakra. It really starts at your feet and climbs up to the bottom of your spine. It encompasses your feet, legs, and the lowest part of your abdomen. So use this all in your visualization. See your feet and shins in the loamy soil getting connected to Mother Earth. Nice. This connection makes all of your spiritual work real and full of integrity. Please do not take this connection lightly. Do this every time you go into a meditative state for your safety and the safety of others.

Root yourself in Mother Earth...

Root yourself in Mother Earth...

If you are holding space for others doing meditative, healing, or spiritual work, visualize their feet in the soil with roots growing down and see them as very grounded in their work and connected to Mother Earth. Her energy shields and protects us so it is wise to include this energy in everything you do. I’m going to let Mary continue.

MARY MAGDALENE: Yeoshua has definitely gotten us started. I would like to continue by making a few suggestions if you feel your connection is not strong with Mother Earth and you wish to strengthen it. First, put your hands in the soil every day. If you don’t have soil in your backyard that you can pick up, find a park to go to. Pick up the soil and sift it through your fingers. If you are near a beach, you may use the sand but it is not as powerful because sand does not grow as many plants as a loamy soil would. It is not as giving and supportive as full, rich, dark soil. You understand? This is my first suggestion.

Buy some red flowers...

Buy some red flowers...

Second, buy red flowers and put them where you can see them every day. There is nothing like a vibrant red to draw your attention and remind you to connect with Mother Earth. Give thanks for our earth when you see the flowers and do a mini-visualization of your feet growing in dark, rich soil. The red flowers are a reminder to do this brief visualization. Plus, they are a product of the rich, loamy soil so it works on multiple levels.

Again, I reiterate that we are what we eat. If you want to feel more of a connection with Mother Earth and your Root Chakra, grow your own garden or buy your fruits and vegetables at the local farmer’s market. This will brinng you closer to the land around you which strengthens your bond with all things. It will connect you even closer to the earth. Not everyone likes tomatoes, but this particular vegetable encompasses the red color of the root chakra as well as connecting you to your roots. Tomatoes would be great to eat to strengthen this connection. Watermelons and anything else red grown in the soil would benefit you.

And women—this one is for you. Think about what else is red and comes from your root chakra. Hmmm. Yes, menstrual blood. Did you know that many indigenous societies have used the first menstrual blood of young girls to mix with dirt and bury it with great reverence in their fields? It helps their crops grow. This blood is life giving and when not used for creating a baby was used to create new crops. That is paying homage to our female bodies and the power that lies within. We like this. How does this relate to you? Well, when you get your period, give thanks first and then see it as a true connection to Mother Earth. It is not a curse. It is a connection. It is how we are all mothers. I will write another blog about this in particular but for today, I will leave it at this and just intrigue you into coming back.

Sexual Energy

I’ve been told by spirit that Mary Magdalene represents the empowerment of our sexual energy. I was wondering if Mary could give us more information on this and how it does or does not relate to our chakras.

MARY MAGDALENE: Yes, this is the question I’ve been looking for from you, Melinda. It is about time we addressed the issue of sexual energy. Our society exploits sex but also downgrades it as something lowly and as something to be ashamed of. This is another way of keeping women from empowering themselves and keeping them from grounding in all aspects of the sacred feminine energy. When women are reduced to sex objects, they lose the power that can come from sexual coupling. The man is in charge and the mystery of the woman and her body is overlooked completely.

Honor the mystery that is woman.

Honor the mystery that is woman.

For those of you who have been raised with strict religious doctrine, I am speaking to you. Think about the amazing things your body can do. You can have babies grow in your womb and feed off what you put in your body and know how to grow limbs and brain cells and tiny toes. How amazing is that? Why deny the Goddess-type skills your body naturally has? What is more like God than creating new life in your womb? How can you doubt our divine essence, my fellow women? Rise up, rise up. You are not just a carrier of babes but a CREATOR of babes and new life. Raise your self-confidence to the goddess you are meant to be. Rise up and claim this sexual energy back from where it got lost.

OK, let’s start with the basics here. You have a vagina. Look, I said it. You have a vagina and it speaks to you. Are you listening to what it wants? Some people call this your Yoni and we can use this word if you prefer. I want you to get comfortable with your own sexuality as it is as natural as the trees and the flowers and the stars. Without sex, none of us would be there. The earth is based upon sex so where is the dirtiness in that? Sex is sex and it’s what keeps this earth going. It’s how we get more plants and animals and humans. There is no reason to be embarrassed. There is no reason to be anything but comfortable with our bodies and how they can interact with other bodies. It is how God made us. There is no sin in doing what our bodies are meant to do which is procreate. So, just drop that thought off and leave it in the past. Let’s move on.

Meditate with your Yoni.

Meditate with your Yoni.

So, let’s listen to your Yoni. This is a Native American word and we can use it if you prefer. There is great sexual energy and this can be accessed through a chakra system. Your Root chakra is most closely related to sexual energy and it is what connects you to Mother Earth. Recognizing the sacredness of your own sexuality lets you better connect to Mother Earth and to your own body. Denying this connection and this sacredness only lets you go so far in understanding your spirituality. If you deny your sexual energy, you deny the power of Mother Earth. You don’t want that, do you? No, I didn’t think so. The patriarchal society has long suppressed this feminine energy so that they may dominate and control. They have called fear and disgust around female sexuality and the honoring of Mother Earth. It is time to change this. It is time to get back to the dirt, the earthiness of who we are and where we came from. Get in touch with that beautiful spark inside of you—deep inside of you hidden in your yoni. This is where the unfolding of your sexual energy begins.

This may sound crazy but I want you to begin to meditate and ask for messages from your Yoni. You will begin to take note of what she wants and needs from you. She may want healing and respect. She may want you to start eating healthier foods so that she can help you gain your sexual energy back. You can restore energy and vitality to this long forgotten but extremely important part of your body. Visualize a beautiful red light in your uterus coming through your vagina and into Mother Earth connecting you. Once you are connected to Mother Earth, ask her for messages. She will connect you to the power that has been hidden from you for so long. Enjoy this connection and strive to do this several times a week until you begin to feel this connection on a daily basis. This will be a good introduction into gaining back your sexual energy. Begin with this. Namaste.

Sacral Chakra and Women

I asked Yeoshua (Jesus) and Mary Magdalene the following question: I’m wondering today about encouraging women to become more empowered. I’m seeing connections in some of the readings I give women about their abdomen/sexual organs/digestive system and the sacral chakra. Can you provide more information on that?

Chakra Empowerments

Chakra Empowerments

YEOSHUA: Yes, of course. If you have not studied chakras, I suggest you do so. This is an amazing explanation of the human body and allows you a way to directly influence the energies in your own body. It is like a control panel to your brain and your body. You can manipulate unseen energies by invoking these colors and imagery around your chakras. We are speaking here of the 7 chakras but there are many chakra systems and you are not limited to just one. Today, we will be discussing the 7 chakra system.

There is the sacral chakra just above your root chakra and it is colored bright orange. Now, when women have kids, this chakra dips or fades a bit. It is important to strengthen this chakra after you have had children. Your children absorb this energy when they are in the womb and then take that energy with them when they are born. Women get into a habit of giving their children this type of energy even after they are out of the womb. This is OK. It is all part of the natural process of birthing.

But after a certain amount of time goes by and the child feels settled in the world, this drain on the sacral chakra needs to stop. You may gently do this by visualizing the child’s own connection to mother earth and opening up their chakras first. Then you may cut cords between you and your child through your sacral chakra. I suggest you only do this after the child has reached the age of 2. Up until this point, your child identifies the mother by their sacral energy and it will confuse them if you cut this cord sooner than 2 years of age. After that, it is fine.

After you have cut the cords of your sacral chakra with your child or children, it is important to then take care of this chakra. You should infuse it with orange light every time you meditate for a year afterward. The drain on this energy channel is tremendous when women have children. You need to get this energy back to return to your power as a woman and to upgrade your hormones to return to optimal sexual functioning. Many women find that their libido drops tremendously after children and this is true for men too but I’ll get to them in a minute.

To energize your libido, send orange energy to this chakra and clear out any old dark energy residue left over from childbirthing. Men, too, feel a drop in the energy of their sacral chakra as a part of this energy is devoted to their children as well but their energy bounces back much more quickly than a woman’s. This is good to know. If men have found that their energy in this region has not bounced back sufficiently, then send orange energy to this spot during meditation and clear any energy that is blocking it.

MELINDA’S FOLLOW-UP QUESTION: What other ways can we infuse this chakra with energy and vitality?

YEOSHUA: Drink orange juice and eat orange fruit. The vitality in these foods supports the reintegration of orange energy into that energy channel. Also, carry an orange stone in your pocket and every time you feel it, send that orange color to your chakra.

Add oranges to your diet...

Add oranges to your diet...

MARY MAGDALENE: I agree with Yeoshua on these points. This is so critical for women to do these practices. It is the first step in regaining our power. Our ancestors knew these things and we have forgotten. It is time to remember and reclaim our rightful place next to men, equal to men, and yet different than men. Women have natural abilities that complement men. We are not meant to compete with natural male abilities. We bring our own special powers to the table and it is important to remember this.

I have some herbal remedies to help with this chakra as well. You may grate orange rind and smooth it onto your lower abdomen temporarily staining your skin orange. This is an excellent way to get your mind to place this color in this region. It helps strengthen your visual imagery of this area. You may also rub orange oil in this area. You can buy this at any whole foods store or online. It has powerful revitalization energy and will help you in and out of bed, if you know what I mean. Have your lover spread this orange oil on your lower abdomen to further raise and honor the energies found in this region. It can be fun and healing at the same time.

I am hopeful that remedies and practices like these around childbirth will help raise awareness of how childbirth affects women’s bodies. It is a powerful female life event and it needs to be respected and honored. And women’s bodies need to be treated for a year or two afterwards to truly restore them to their optimal balance. This is just one way to do this by honoring the sacral chakra. There will be more blog posts on this issue so check back.
